YOU HAVE FALLEN AWAY FROM GRACE

YOU HAVE FALLEN AWAY FROM GRACE

Sakkie Parsons

Someone writes to me as follows in regards that I declare that we are no longer under the Mosaic Law:

"What was meant by Jesus when He said the following?”

MAT 5:17 -20
17  "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
18  For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
19  Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20  For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Let me just swiftly make one thing very clear:
I do not take anything away from the Mosaic Law and I do not add anything – but I do say that if you apply one of the laws of the Mosaic Law to yourself, you are obliged to obey the whole ‘Law of Moses’ in every way.
I also say, as I will now try to explain again, that a Christian is under no obligation to obey one of the Mosaic laws.
We, in my opinion, are now under another law, the Law of Christ.

I think to begin with, I must first explain how I believe what it means.

MAT 5:17   "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. (NKJV)

Jesus fulfilled the law.
He did not violate any of the laws of Moses. If He had disobeyed only one, He would have sinned against the Father.
Whether He sinned, we read:

2COR 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

He fully fulfilled the Mosaic Law to the finest. Yes, to the sacrifice of His own life.
With that in mind, He gave us a new command.
Instead of the Mosaic Law, He gave us His Love Law.

JOH 13:34  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
JOH 13:35  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

What does this "New Commandment” looks like?

MAT 22:6-40
36  "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"
37  And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
38  This is the great and first commandment.
39  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."

As I live these two commandments, I fulfil, so to speak, Jesus' new Commandment of Love that He gave me.
Therefore, my great hero Paul was able to write:

ROM 13: 9   The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

If I were to lean on all or some part of the Mosaic Law, I would, as I understand the Word, in effect proclaim that Jesus did not really fulfil the law, or at least not the whole Law of Moses, but I read, understand and proclaim that Christ is the end of the Mosaic Law.

ROM 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Now, because I believe in Christ, the Mosaic Law as such is not part of my worship or my life.

GAL 3:23-25
23  Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed.
24  So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.
25  But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian,

Now, there may still be someone who has read up to this point and still asks:
"Should a Christian Live by the Mosaic Law?"

For me personally, the answer is simple –
No, of course not.

First of all, the Mosaic Law was only given to Israel.
Nowhere in the Bible do I read anything that tells me that the law was given to someone else, such as the Christians.
As you read above and I share with you one of my examples again, the law fulfilled by Jesus, does not apply to me.

GAL 3:23-25 (NKJV)
23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.
24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

No!!!
I am under the Law of Christ.

GAL 6:2   Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the Law of Christ.

What Law of Christ is spoken of here?

MAT 22:36-40
36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

How can I do this?
Put differently – How is it possible for me to fulfil Christ's law, as I am told in Gal 6: 2?
Personally, after everything I read in this regard in the Word, the answer lies clear in the last section of Rom 13:8:

ROM 13: 8   … for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law .

Finally, for those that feel they would still like to make the Law of Moses or then select parts thereof applicable to themselves, to them I say the following:

The Law of Moses, the Mosaic Law, is not a lot of separate laws, from which you can choose, these I want to apply to myself and those not.
The Law of Moses is a union that cannot be separate from one another and therefore, according to the Word, must not be detached from one another.
Therefore, if you apply one law of the Mosaic Law to yourself, but violate the other because you do not want to apply it to yourself, you violate the whole law and then in that matter deliberately sin – because you know what the Word say about the Law:

JAM 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.

Can you see how fatal it is to try to apply only certain sections of the Mosaic Law to yourself?
Then my friend – how terrible it is what you just have read – I have, to put it this way, not yet shared with you the worst of such a foolish way of living.
Read what the Word says in this regard:

GAL 5:4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.

Therefore, if someone wants to apply the Mosaic Law to him or her, do it.
You get it in the Word. Every jota and every title and it will always be there and remember that you have to keep the whole Mosaic Law. So do not intentionally and wilfully sin by just holding some parts of it.

JAM 2:10 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all (NKJV)

Regarding wilful sin the Word says very clearly:

HEB 10:26   For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
HEB 10:27  but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.

I, myself, live under the Love Law of Christ.

GAL 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

ROM 13:9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Sakkie
