TOGETHERNESS – THE FLOURISHING YEARS BEFORE THE FAMINE YEARS
Sakkie Parsons
Translated from Afrikaans: “Saamwees – Die Vet Jare voor die Maer Jare”
GEN 41:35-36
35 And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
36 That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine that are to occur in the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine."
Our Lord has recently brought so clearly to my attention this one great life lesson that touches me very deeply, because I walked a path, and I just came to the realization again of how incredibly precious every moment is with those you love.
For this reason, I just want to share with you again this great truth that our Lord has laid on my heart:
Make the most of being with your loved ones.
Because, as I have already mentioned, I have walked a path, I sometimes remember all the very good times of the past that I just took for granted.
Let's fill our barns with golden moments and loving memories with our spouses, children and loved ones.
1 PET 4:8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
1 JOHN 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
PRO 17:9 Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.
1 JOHN 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 JOHN 4:12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
We know that we make a lot of mistakes in our lives – such as sometimes not fully appreciating the opportunities with our loved ones, and it is good that our Lord does not remind us of every mistake – for then we would have been one big self-blaming being.
How wonderfully wonderful to know even in the lean years in our lives:
PS 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He gives without reservation or accusation.
JAM 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
My thought these days when I hear people who love each other, is: "Thank God and appreciate and enjoy every precious moment together."
Because it does not matter what you do. At some point, that togetherness, as far as this life is concerned, is going to come to an end – because either one or the other is going to exchange this life for Eternal Life, and if you now make the best of the time and opportunity that our Lord give you, you are going to have lovely barns full of sweet memories when the lean years come, as they are sure to come – if you are the one who stays behind and has to face the lean years.
I then conclude this letter to you with this glorious passage from our Lord's precious Word, as my wish for you and your spouse and/or your loved ones whom you love:
PHI 1:9-10
9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,
10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
Greetings,
Sakkie
