CAN I AS A CHRISTIAN BIND SATAN?

Someone wrote and asked me two questions:
I answer the questions to the best of my ability as I understand them and as you will see, by the guidance of His Holy Spirit, our Lord show me toward the end, what is truly significant.
The first question was about where in the Word do we read “to be on “fire and flame for the Lord.”
I don’t think the people who pray that we should, for example, “be one fire and flame for our Lord” pray in such a way because they think it comes from the Word.
This is just the way we as South-Africans sometimes speak.
For example, with rugby in mind, you will easily hear:
“I am an ‘on fire’ Bull supporter.”
Or:
“His injury is now completely healed, and he is ‘fire and flame’ to play.
Personally, I do not know of a passage in the Word that literally says that we must be “on fire and flame” – but I wish all Jesus’ children were all “fire and flame” (enthusiastic) in the proclamation of His Gospel.
There are passages that you may use incorrectly in this context, but then as I say, you are using them out of context.
I give some examples:
ACTS 2:3 3There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit].
2 THES 1:6-8 6For after all it is only just for God to repay with distress those who distress you, 7and to give relief to you who are so distressed and to us as well when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in a flame of fire, 8dealing out [full and complete] vengeance to those who do not [seek to] know God and to those who ignore and refuse to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus [by choosing not to respond to Him].
Regarding your question, whether we can bind satan:
As far as I know, we cannot “bind” satan or his angels.
In saying this ‘with my tongue in my cheek’ – If we could do that, we could have bound satan and all his angels a long time ago and the earth could have been a paradise again.
We do bind satan’s works in someone’s life or in a particular situation in the Name of Jesus and we use, for example, the following as our authority:
Matthew 18:18 18I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth shall have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth shall have [already] been loosed in heaven.
Then of course it is good to know that people can be bound by satan in one or other facet or aspects of their lives.
Luke 13:16 16“And this woman, a daughter (descendant) of Abraham whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?”
Then, and how wonderful to also know –
One can also be bound through and by the Holy Spirit.
I believe that I can say, for example, that the Holy Spirit has wonderfully bound me to sit in front of my computer every day, sometimes for many, many hours, to work for our Lord.
ACTS 20:22 22And now, compelled by the Spirit and obligated by my convictions, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,
The only one I see in the Word who could bind satan, so to speak, in the person, is an angel of our Lord:
REV 20:1-2 Satan Bound
1And then I saw an angel descending from heaven, holding the key of the abyss (the bottomless pit) and a great chain was in his hand. 2And he overpowered and laid hold of the dragon, that old serpent [of primeval times], who is the devil and Satan, and bound him [securely] for a thousand years (a millennium);
How wonderful to know:
You and I have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. He is in control of our lives. We are and how wonderful to be able to put it this way –
All of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, are, you could say, bound to Him by His Spirit who lives in us.
Isn’t it significant and wonderful to know –
All power in heaven and on earth is in His hands and we are bound to HIM, by His Spirit, so to speak.
Matthew 28:18 18Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
Do you know –
Just after Jesus made this wonderful announcement in Matthew 18:18 to us namely: 18 Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
He gives us, who are bound to Him by His Spirit, the following command:
Matthew 28:19 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Someone might ask:
“Sakkie, how can I, with all my shortcomings, comply with this order?”
Now, it’s just a reality that not all of us can write and send email messages.
Not all of us can stand on a stage and sing.
Not all of us can stand behind a pulpit and preach and so I can go on and on.
All of us who have accepted Jesus have two great wonders in common:
We have His Spirit dwelling in us, and we have our lives.
So, as I’ve said so many times before, I’ll say it again:
Start as follows:
Live your life for Him.
Let your life be the thought for the day to the people around you.
Let your life be your song about Him to the people around you.
Let your life be your sermon about Him to the people around you.
While you remember all the time, that He is with you, to help you.
Because – right after Jesus gave us the order of:
Mat 28:19 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Jesus is saying to us:
Mat 28:20 20teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
