DELANEY’S SANDWICH

DELANEY’S SANDWICH

Sakkie Parsons

Translated from Afrikaans: “Delaney se sandwich”

One Sunday morning several years ago, my grandson Delaney, he was seven years old at the time, came to his mother right after waking up and told her he was hungry for a sandwich.

She then asked him what kind of sandwich he wanted. To which he replied:

“Do we have McDonalds in the house?”

Some time after Alta told me this precious incident and I thought of it again with a smile, our Lord again reminded me of what He had said on occasion.

Mark 10:14-16

14But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and He said to them, “Allow the children to come to Me; do not forbid them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” 16And He took the children [one by one] in His arms and blessed them [with kind, encouraging words], placing His hands on them.

You see, Delaney knew that his mother loved him, and she asked what kind of sandwich he wanted, and he wanted a MacDonalds, so he asked for a McDonalds.

Of course he didn’t get a McDonalds, but – the sandwich he got was much tastier than a McDonalds and you know why?

It was made with the love of a parent for her child.

Not only was it made with love, but all the knowledge of Delaney’s likes and dislikes also went into that sandwich.

You see, the sandwich was customized for Delaney, something McDonalds couldn’t exactly do.

This is exactly what our Lord want to do for His children – if we only want to trust Him like a child.

I have also asked our Father for many things that I have not received, and I have received many things that I did not ask for. I even got many things which I didn’t even want, but when I look back on my life, I will not change anything, because I know that my loving Father is telling me in His Word – and I can testify that it is exactly that’s how it works.

Rom 8:28 28And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.

So, you can go to your Father with your need and ask Him: “Is there a McDonalds in Your house?”  But then you really must do it with childlike faith.

Mark 10:15-16

. 15“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” 16And He took the children [one by one] in His arms and blessed them [with kind, encouraging words], placing His hands on them.

Maybe you won’t get exactly what you wanted, but what you will get, will be customized just for you, because it was made with the love of your Heavenly Father just for you.

Not only will it be precisely customized just for you with all His love – but in answering your need, it will be all the divine knowledge of your likes and dislikes.

In His house He has everything to make the most delicious “sandwich” for your needs. Because, He says in His Word:

Psm 24:1-2

1The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness of it,
The world, and those who dwell in it.2For He has founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the streams and the rivers.

You know what else?

Our Lord also want, when you ask Him, to dowhat Alta also wanted to do that Sunday morning when Delaney asked her: “Do we have McDonalds in the house?”

Do you remember what He did, after He used the little children as an example, of how we should believe?

Mark 10:16 16And He took the children [one by one] in His arms and blessed them [with kind, encouraging words], placing His hands on them.

So, child of God, in a childlike (pure, simple, trusting) way, go to your Father with your needs, so that He can wrap His arms around you and bless you.

Sakkie
