MAY I CONSULT MEDIUMS OR SPIRITS OF THE DEAD?
Sakkie Parsons
Someone asked me:
“How does our Lord feel about someone who involves themselves with fortune-telling?”
Here is how I see and understand it from the Word – the Bible:
Firstly, in His eyes, you are defiled and unclean:
LEV 19:31 “Do not turn to those [who mediums] who pretend to consult the dead or to spiritists; do not seek them out [to be defiled by them]. I am the Lord your God.”
Our Lord says we must not occupy ourselves with such filth — and why not?
Because He is our Lord and our God.
LEV 19:31
“… I am the Lord your God.”
Do you know what our Lord thinks of someone who does such things?
Do you know how He sees such a person?
He sees such a person as a prostitute of satan.
LEV 20:6 “As for the person who turns to mediums, who consult the dead, and to spiritists, to play the prostitute after them, I shall set My face against that person and will cut him off from his people [excluding him from the atonement made for them].”
Not only does He see such a person as a prostitute of satan, but He feels so strongly about it that He says He will cut off such a person — and when God cuts off, it stays cut off.
The New Living Translation reads:
LEV 20:6 “I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community.
Our Lord feel so strongly about this matter that He says if someone has such a spirit in them, that person, according to the Lord, does not deserve to live.
LEV 20:27 “Now a man or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist shall most certainly be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood is on them [for their involvement in this great sin].”
If I now understand the Word correctly, then it seems to me that a person who has this kind of evil spirit in them is defiled by some of the most vile, disgusting, and horrifying spirits that satan has.
So, a person who involves themselves in this senseless filth must repent and live — or continue wallowing in it and die forever in hell.
And yet — as much as they may wish to — they will not die.
ROM 6:16
“Do you not know that when you continually offer yourselves to someone to do his will, you are the slaves of the one whom you obey, either [slaves] of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (right standing with God)?”
How can I get free from this filth I’ve become entangled with?
What can I do to receive our Lord’s forgiveness?
Thankfully, it has been made so easy for us through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
I must confess my sin before the Lord with sincere remorse and then make a deliberate decision not to do it again.
Then the following applies to me:
1 JOHN 1:9 “If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].”
Someone might say:
“Sakkie, if it’s even halfway as serious as you say, then surely nothing can protect me anymore from God’s wrath.”
Just read this again, believe it — and then act on it — and then you are redeemed.
1 JOHN 1:9
“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].”
All you have to do —
No, all you must do —
Is respond with true, sincere remorse to His invitation.
ISAIAH 1:18
“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be like wool.”
People often ask me whether those who have passed away are aware of what happens here on earth.
According to the Word, as I understand it:
If you are in heaven, you are occupied with heavenly things and, to put it plainly, nothing else matters to you anymore.
And if you are in hell, you are occupied only with the torment of hell and cannot escape from it.
Let me share with you an example that Jesus gave us — and as I always say:
Jesus is the only person who ever walked this earth who had full and complete knowledge of both of these places:
LUKE 16:22
“Now it happened that the poor man died and his spirit was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom (paradise); and the rich man also died and was buried.”
LUKE 16:23
“In Hades (the realm of the dead), being in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom (paradise).”
***You can also order “Is It of the Lord to Speak with the Dead?” which expands on what it means when a so-called prophet claims, “the Lord is showing me this or that in your life.”***
