CAN I MAKE TOO MUCH OF JESUS?

CAN I MAKE TOO MUCH OF JESUS?

Sakkie Parsons

I was having a conversation with someone and this person then asked me if I’m not making too much of Jesus. He asked me whether it could be possible for someone to cross over to “Jesus worship.” He then also tried to warn me against so called “Jesus worship”

Let me firstly reiterate that the meaning for this writing is not to insinuate that my way of thinking is the Alpha and the Omega for how Christians have to interpret the Word, but because, by the grace of God, I write to a lot of people and that some of these people might have the same point of view as the man I had this conversation with, and I really want you to understand how I view this matter.

Now I want to ask the question and also provide an answer but firstly I want to show you how I see our Lord.

How do I see God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit?

Let me explain it this way:
When I, Sakkie, am with my wife, I act like her husband because I am her husband.
When I, Sakkie, am with my children, I act like their father because I am their father.
When I, Sakkie, am at work, I act like an employee of that company because I am an employee at that company.
In all three situations I act quite differently, almost like three different people, yet I am and always remain Sakkie.

This is the same way that I see our Lord:
To me He is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, God Almighty.

1JHN 5:7  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

JAK 2:19 You believe that God is one; you do well [to believe that]. The demons also believe [that], and shudder and bristle [in awe-filled terror—they have seen His wrath]!

Is it possible for me, Sakkie, a born again child of God, who has accepted Jesus Christ as my God, Saviour and Redeemer, to make too much of Him?

Let’s quickly look at what God says in His Word about Jesus, and with all due respect, God cannot stop speaking about His son Jesus.  So let me give you just a few examples:

Who is Jesus that God keeps referring to?
He is God Almighty who created everything and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.

JHN 1:1 In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
JHN 1:2 He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God.
JHN 1:3 All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.

This Word that was with God and was God Himself, became flesh and came to live with us:

JHN 1:14 And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception).

Can I make too much of God Almighty – who became flesh and walked to Golgotha and allowed Himself to be slaughtered for my sins?

1COR 5:7  Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new batch, just as you are, still unleavened. For Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed.

Is it even at all possible for myself, Sakkie, to make too much of Jesus?
In ecstasy, I shout out in my heart:
"No! O! No! A thousand times no! Never will I ever be able to make enough of my Jesus, how can we ever make too much of Him! "

How does God Almighty look at this Jesus that I proclaim with so much enthusiasm?

MAT 11:27  All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Son except the Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son [deliberately] wills to reveal Him.

Did you see what you have read now?
God Almighty, who loves you, as just our Lord can love you – left it to Jesus to decide if you may know God who loves you so much.

MAT 11:27 …and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son [deliberately] wills to reveal Him.

Therefor with all the authority of God, Jesus can say:

MAT 11:27 All things have been handed over to Me by My Father…

To summarize how I see this matter:

For me everything begins and ends with Jesus Christ.

REV 1:7 BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes (nations) of the earth will mourn over Him [realizing their sin and guilt, and anticipating the coming wrath]. So it is to be. Amen.

REV 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega [the Beginning and the End],” says the Lord God, “Who is [existing forever] and Who was [continually existing in the past] and Who is to come, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all].”

REV 21:6 And He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the one who thirsts I will give [water] from the fountain of the water of life without cost.
REV 21:7 He who overcomes [the world by adhering faithfully to Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour] will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.

Someone asks me if I worship Jesus?

Every time I even think of my Jesus, my entire being rejoices with Thomas!

JHN 20:28  Thomas answered Him, “My Lord and my God!”

COL 1:15  He is the exact living image [the essential manifestation] of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible], the firstborn [the preeminent one, the sovereign, and the originator] of all creation.

COL 1:16  For by Him all things were created in heaven and on earth, [things] visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [that is, by His activity] and for Him.

EXO 20:11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy [that is, set it apart for His purposes].

COL 1:17-20
17 And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.]
18 He is also the head [the life-source and leader] of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will occupy the first place [He will stand supreme and be preeminent] in everything.
19 For it pleased the Father for all the fullness [of deity—the sum total of His essence, all His perfection, powers, and attributes] to dwell [permanently] in Him (the Son),
20 and through [the intervention of] the Son to reconcile all things to Himself, making peace [with believers] through the blood of His cross; through Him, [I say,] whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Why am I so enthusiastic about Jesus that someone even mentioned that I make too much of Jesus?
Because, just over two thousand years ago, our Lord did what He had prophesied long before:

ISAIAH 9:5   For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given;
And the government shall be upon His shoulder,
And His name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

ROM 10:9-22
9 That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
10 For with the heart man believes to righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to salvation.
11 For the scripture said, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed.

Therefore, the main theme of my writings will always be, as my great hero Paul also stated on occasion:

1COR 2:2  For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.(King James Version)

Greetings,
Sakkie
