WILL CHRIST SHARE A DWELLING WITH SATAN? IDOLS, CURSES AND THE UNNECESSARY FEAR OF THEM AS A CHILD OF GOD

WILL CHRIST SHARE A DWELLING WITH SATAN?

Idols, Curses and the unnecessary fear of them as a child of GOD

Sakkie Parsons

Someone sent me a question about idols, curses etc in and on your home and wanted to know if I have dealt with these kinds of teachings.

My answer is that I have heard of these things, but fortunately do not have the time or excess energy to waste on them.

I am amazed when I sometimes see and experience how easily blood-washed children of our Lord are chased and scared by this kind of stuff.

Then I also feel like exclaiming as my great hero Paul:

Galatians 1:6-9 Perversion of the Gospel

6I am astonished and extremely irritated that you are so quickly shifting your allegiance and deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different [even contrary] gospel; 7which is really not another [gospel]; but there are [obviously] some [people masquerading as teachers] who are disturbing and confusing you [with a misleading, counterfeit teaching] and want to distort the gospel of Christ [twisting it into something which it absolutely is not]. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we [originally] preached to you, let him be condemned to destruction! 9As we have said before, so I now say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel different from that which you received [from us], let him be condemned to destruction!

Fortunately, this is not the kind of curse that applies to a true child of God.

I repented and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour –

What idol or curse will I be afraid of, while Christ lives in me, and I walk in His ways?

What evil spirit can take possession of me and in other words, drive Christ out of me?

Or will Christ share a dwelling with satan?

Gal 2:20 20I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Can a curse of any kind exercise control over me or mine, while Jesus live in me and while He has my life in the palm of His hand?

No! Never!!!

Now satan could have been in a house or place having an orgy – but if I walk in to live there, or do whatever a child of God would want to do there, it becomes a blessed place because I walk in there with Jesus.

It seems to me that many Christians sometimes, become so obsessed with curses that rest on this or that, and with this image or that decoration in someone’s home or life, that they forget two things that are of fundamental importance and that happen because satan tricked them into wasting their time with rubbish, so that they don’t have to do what they are actually supposed to do.

Number one:

1JHN 4:4 4Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world [of sinful mankind].

Do you see what you just read?

It does not say that you will or can overcome.

It says:

1JHN 4:4 4Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world [of sinful mankind].

Why do these things not apply to you?

1JHN 4:4 4Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world [of sinful mankind].

1JHN 5:4 4For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God].

It is absurd to think that a curse or malediction/spell can rest on me as a child of God, or something of mine – if I ask and have asked for the blessing of our Lord, on me and mine.

Number two:

Mat 28:19 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Therefore, let us do it –

Let me and you preach the Gospel and teach the people what Jesus taught us, so that they can keep it, and the Holy Spirit will do the rest that need to be done.

Furthermore, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, walk in His ways and you will in any case not want to waste time on all these other things that people waste their time with.

I want to encourage you, as a Christian, not to get disturbed or to interfere with this or that curse, or to fear this or that of clay, wood, iron image or object. Because it is nothing but wood, clay, iron etc.

Pay no attention to the things of darkness that satan presents to you. You are of the light and what fellowship does the light have with the dark?

Matthew 5:14-16

14“You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Let you and I be a shining light and thus dispel the darkness around us – and our Lord will do everything else that needs to be done for us.

Let me quickly show you how of nothing worth a curse or spell that is spoken on a child of God is in any respect:

Jesus is saying:

Luke 6:28 “ bless and show kindness to those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”

Do you see –

Jesus does not say that you should “duck and dive” if you are cursed.

No!  You must bless the person.

Luke 6:28  Bless and show kindness to those who curse you…

Because it is not you, child of God, who has a problem. It is the person who spoke the curse against a child of God, who has a huge problem.

There are many people these days, who come forward with many so-called ministries and for some of them I just shake my head.

So, tongue in cheek –

I think I would call my type of ministry a “one track mind” ministry.

Because, and I want to encourage you to do the same, I follow my great hero Paul in this regard:

For our Lord had him written in His Word:

1 COR 11:1 1Imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.

Therefore, I want to encourage you:

Do not take notice of people that shout ‘Wolf, Wolf” (spreading fear) about all kinds of things that have no hold on a child of God, who walks in His ways.

Let us preach the Gospel as Paul did – (to whom our Lord entrusted such a great part of the New Testament):

1COR 2:2 for I made the decision to know nothing [that is, to forego philosophical or theological discussions regarding inconsequential things and opinions while] among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified [and the meaning of His redemptive, substitutionary death and His resurrection].

How do I do that?

Mat 28:19  19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

I almost forgot to say something about the so-called idols but then – What is an idol?

1 COR 8:4  In this matter, then, of eating food offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world [it has no real existence], and that there is no God but one.

Hab 2:18-19

18“What profit is the carved image when its maker has formed it?
It is only a cast image, and a teacher of lies.
For its maker trusts in his own creation [as his god]
When he makes speechless idols.

19 “Woe (judgment is coming) to him who says to the wooden image, ‘Awake!’
And to the speechless stone, ‘Arise!’
And that is your teacher?
Look, it is overlaid with gold and silver,
And there is no breath at all inside it.

Habakkuk 2:19 can also be understood as follows – and that is how I understand it:

Woe to the person who claims that any image or object has a spirit or supernatural power of any kind.

The NLT read:

HAB 2:19  What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols, ‘Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say, ‘Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.
