AS GOD’S PEOPLE, WE ARE MADE OF DIFFERENT TRIBES, LANGUAGES, PEOPLES AND NATIONS

Sakkie Parsons

Someone wrote to me as follow and I share with you the relevant passages from the letter, which this writing is about:

“A friend of mine married a black lady and now they also have a child.

His family now want nothing to do with him, because according to them our Lord forbid it.

Can you give me scripture where our Lord forbid Christians to marry each other, if they are not of the same colour?”

Just before I answer you.

I’m just wondering –

Who says his family, who created that little child?

Then now my answer about your question.

No, I don’t know either where it is written in the Word, that one Christian may not marry another Christian. All Christians belong to the same people – God’s holy people:

1PET 2:6-10 6 As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a Cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in Him will never be disgraced.” (Regardless of what tribe or language, or people, or nation you or I are from)

7 Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”

8 And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

9 But you (that is all that accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour) are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. (Everyone that is from the same people – that is God’s holy Christian people –surely may marry each other)

10 “Once you had no identity as a people;(because we were unbelievers) now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”

(Because we – that is every person on earth, regardless of what tribe, language, people, or nation he/she belongs to – who accepted Jesus Christ, who sacrificed Himself on a cross on Golgotha for us, – so that for once and all there is a perfect sacrificing made for us).

Oh, how wonderful the chorus now comes to the fore again in my heart, that we always sing so well in church, and I quote the song’s words directly from the Word for you:

REV 5:9 And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Then we sing at the end and repeat it twice:

Hallelujah, hallelujah, bought in full by Jesus’ blood!!!

I could have mentioned many examples to prove that the non-mingling with other nations in the Old Covenant applied to Israel, but this letter to you is already a bit lengthy, so I will suffice with one example.

ESRA 10:10 Then Ezra the priest stood and said to them: “You have committed a terrible sin. By marrying pagan women, you have increased Israel’s guilt.

ESRA 10:11 So now confess your sin to the LORD, the God of your ancestors, and do what he demands. Separate yourselves from the people of the land and from these pagan women.”

In my opinion, nowhere in the Word are Christians discouraged from associating themselves with fellow believers from other nations or if you like from other so-called races.

Nor as far as marriage is concerned. On the contrary, one could even say that it is encouraged rather than marrying someone from your people or so-called race who is not a professing Christian, but you must decide that for yourself with what I am going to show you.

I am a white person.

God created me white, and no one has the right to look down on the colour God created me.

Someone who looks down on me, or discriminates against me because I’m white, looks down and discriminates against God’s handiwork and that’s just evil, conceited, arrogant.

The same that applies to me goes to every other person on earth in whatever colour it pleased God to create her/him.

It is written:

2 COR 6:14  Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?

2 COR 6:15  What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil ? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?

So, for example, our Lord forbid me, who is an Afrikaner, to marry an Afrikaner who is not a professing Christian, but many Christians simply feel zero for this order of our Lord, that a Christian should not marry an unbeliever.

As I said –

This order is simply ignored by most Christians and it is, in my opinion, one of the big reasons why the Christians do not have to lag behind the world when it comes to the divorce rate, but all hell break loose if I it would dare to marry another believer, if that blood-washed child of God is not the same colour as me.

What I’m saying is this:

According to the Word of our Lord, I may not discriminate against a Christian believer from another nation or so-called race, not even regarding marriage.

In my opinion, I can – and should – withdraw from someone, if the person is unbelieving and after I have tried numerous times and it has become clear, that the person wants nothing to do with Jesus.

This, in my opinion, is the absolute only reason and of course this also applies to my own so-called race, people and family.

Jesus gives us the following command in this regard:

MattHEW 10:14-16

14 If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. (As a sign that you leave them to their own lot)

15 I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day.

16 “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes (snakes were considered intelligent) and harmless as doves. (without falsehood or evil)

LUKE 10:10-12

10 But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say,

11 ‘We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this—the Kingdom of God is near!’

12 I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day.

In the Old Testament, according to the Old Covenant, there were only two groups among humanity – Israel and the Gentiles. The Gentiles, among whom you and I would have fallen, had we lived at that time.

In the New Testament, according to our Lord’s new covenant, there are also only two groups among humanity, and these are the believers, these are all those who accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and the second group: the unbelievers, these are the people who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

I conclude with one part of many, from our Lord’s precious Word that ultimately applies to every person on earth. Regardless of what tribe, language, people, or nation she/he is from:

JOHN 3:16-18

16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Him. (This is every person that accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour) But anyone who does not believe in Him (this is every person that has not accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour) has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
